- This graduation paper is a translation of a short story entitled Supain Inu No Ie by Haruo Sato. The short story is about the journey of a person, who has a very smart dog that he considers as the Spanish race, to a strange forest. In that forest, he finds a western-style house that is guarded by a Spanish dog as well. Therefore, all the weirdness that is felt by people begins. In the translation process, the writer uses communicative method. Through this method the writer attempts to translate the source text into the target text as precisely as possible and does not eliminate the meaning. Therefore, both the content and the language are able to be understood by readers. During the translation process of Haruo Satou's Supain Inu No Ie, the writer finds several obstacles that are considered as burdensome process of translation, for example in choosing the appropriate diction to be easily understood by the target audience. For instance, hitzumekajiya is translated by the writer into a �toko pandai besi pembuat tapal kuda�. hitzume itself means horseshoe, while Kajiya was a blacksmith. In addition, the writer experiences difficulties in translating the grammar attached in compound sentences into the target language. For example, the sentence on the second line of the first paragraph of the original text, �hijou ni wa kono inu inu de , watashi no tomodachi de aru nenrai no ga , watashi no tsuma nado wa ningen no mochiron daitasuu nadoyori yohodo kashikoi, to watashi wa shinjiteiru� consists of one main clause and three relative clause. How to sort this sentence is deemed difficult by the writer. Thus, the translation process requires several times of mixing and matching the sentence to be easily understood by the reader. Therefore, the writer translates it as �anjing ini, adalah anjing yang sangat pintar, dia sudah menjadi temanku beberapa tahun ini, dan aku yakin dia lebih pintar dari istriku maupun kebanyakan orang lainnya�. Therefore, the solution implemented by the writer is extending grammar handbooks that are used, not only the basic grammar but also the intermediate and advance level. In addition, the writer also applies the suggestion gotten from the target readers in the term of choosing the suitable and understandable diction.
