- Title: The Intersection of Social Class and Gender in Polygamy: A Study on Habiburrahman El Shirazy�s Ayat-Ayat Cinta. The background of this study is the phenomenon of polygamy and its practices in Muslim community that become a controversial issue. Practiced by various groups ranging from upper to lower class of society, the polygamy occurs with diverse backgrounds and different arguments. The actors of polygamy vary from strong economic and social capital people as well as religious leaders. In fact, polygamy becomes a serious problem because it subordinates women and is often considered as a legal practice in Islam. This research was aimed at analyzing the representation and constellation of intersection of social classes and gender in the practice of polygamy as well as the interrelation of polygamy discourse in Ayat- Ayat Cinta with the background of socio-cultural and political condition of Indonesian community. This is a qualitative research describing the representation and struggle for intersection in social classes and gender in the practice of polygamy. Theoretical framework building the thinking system of this dissertation is Pierre Bourdieu�s agency and social structure, Patricia Hill Collin�s intersectional theory, and the Muslim feminism
