Daftar Isi:
- Preparation of nickel catalyst supported on activated carbon for isomerization of 1-octene at variation of temperature of 250, 300, 350, 400, and 450 °C, with variation of catalyst of 20, 30, and 40 g has been investigated. Activated carbon was prepared by grinding the carbon of coconut shell to 60-80 mesh, then it was activated at 800 °C about 3 hours using CO2 gas at flow rate at 20 mL/minute. Activated carbon was washed by acetone, NH4Cl 1M, and HCl 1M, then it was dried. The activated carbon was then impregnated with NiClâ 1% and reduced at 400 °C about 3 hours using H2 gas at flow rate of 10 mL/minute. Characterization of catalyst was conducted to determine the acidity of activated carbon and catalyst Ni/activated carbon by gravimetric method using ammonia adsorption, and BET method was used to measure its surface area, total pore volume, and average pore radius. Result of the isomerization were analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Result shows that acidity of activated carbon and catalyst Ni/activated carbon were 2,535 and 4,262 mmol/g respectively. Result of analysis by BET method, showed that catalyst Ni/activated carbon had surface area of 420.730 m 2 /g, total pore volume 0.232 cc/g, and average pore radius 11.028 Ã. The product of isomerization of 1-octene using variation of optimum catalyst Ni/activated carbon 30 and 40 g at 450 ÂoC were 2-octene, 3-octene, 4-octene, and other product weren-octane,3-methylheptane, 3-methyl-1,4-heptadiene, 2,4-octadiene, ethylbenzene and 1,2-dimethylbenzene.
