  • A study has been done to determine various heat exchanger size on post shutdown for passive PCMSRâs heat exchanger which fulfills natural circulation criterion for various decay powers. The post shutdown heat exchanger was used to decrease the temperature of intermediate fluoride salt from 1300oC to 900oC with the inlet water at 70oC and 3 bar (with saturated temperature 133.5oC). The number of tube was 10,000 with total mass flow rate 1,000 kg/s. The results show that the steam vapor formed when the transfer of heat achieving saturated point (133.5oC) was around 3%. The pressure drop from water show that for riser always smaller than down comer for various tube number and mass flow rate. This means that natural circulation could occure without the need of chimney. The results of variation of tube number with constant mass flow rate show that the increase of tube number will make the length of tube shorter but the area of heat transfer will larger. Variation of mass flow rate with tube number constant show that the increase of mass flow rate will make the length of tube longer but the area for heat transfer will smaller.
