  • Cacao growers In Indonesia face several problems of quantity and quality of seed productivity due to plant age, pest attack, and improper cultivation technique. One way to solve such problem is intensification by the use of high yielding clone in term of quantity and quality of the seed production and resistant to pest. This research is aimed to analyze and select potential cocoa that can produce dry bean weight more than one gram and bean number more than 40 per pod. Located on Block II B PT Pagilaran Plantation, Segayung Utara Unit, Batang, as one of production area of orchard cocoa trees, 300 cocoa trees were taken as sample. For orchard cocoa trees, the information about variety of each tree was collected based on the company record, flower number and plant age. This research used the principal component analysis (PCA) and independent culling level with four cocoa's control clone RCC70, RCC71, RCC73, KKM04 to cluster 300 of individual selected trees located on II B area by using four important cocoa characteristics, those are pod lengths, pod diameter, bean number per pod, and bean dry weight. Based on the PCA and independent culling level analysis, there are two selected trees i.e. number 365 and 502. In order to know the effect of some pod characteristic to dry bean weight per pod, regression analysis was done. The result of the multiple regression analysis showed the important characteristics included dry bean weight of the bean, diameter of the pod, thickness of the pod and length of pod significantly influenced dry bean weight of the pod.
