  • This research was held on the sandy and paddy field in Sanden and Kretek Sub-District, Bantul District. The aims of this research were to (1) analyze the effect of land type that used for red chili farming to the competitive and comparative advantage of red chili farming in Bantul (2) determine the factors that influence competitiveness of red chili in Bantul. The basic method of this research was descriptive method and the instrument used to analyze the competitiveness was Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) and the equipment used for analyzing the factors that influencing the competitiveness is linier regression analysis. The result showed that (1) red chili farming in Bantul was financially and economically profitable, operating on the sandy or on the paddy field, and in the first crop season or second crop season. (2) Value of Private Cost Ratio (PCR) and Domestic Resource Cost Ratio (DRCR) red chili farming were smaller than one, it indicated that red chili farming in both type of land have comparative and competitive advantage. (3) Red chili farming on the paddy field had higher competitiveness (competitive and comparative advantage) than red chili farming that was operating on the sandy land. (4) The impact of absences of governmental policy in output for the red chili farming was resulting the farmer received lower private-output price than the social output price. (5) The existance of the governmental policy in the input showed that government subsidized for tradable input and non-tradable input. (6) Competitiveness factors that resulting negative impacts on the red chiliâ��s PCR value on the first and second crop season were land acreage and farmersâ�� age, and the competitiveness factors that resulting negative impacts on the red chiliâ��s DRCR value were land acreage in the first crop season, whereas land acreage, and the farmersâ�� age in the second crop season.
