- Modification of natural zeolite with cationic surfactant Cetiltrimetilammonium Bromida (CTAB) for adsorption of Mn(II) ions and eosin anionic dye had been studied. The research was started with zeolite activation by washing natural zeolite using aquadest, and then followed by reflux with 3 M HCl. Activated zeolite was modified by CTAB with concentration as much as twice of the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of zeolite to change the charge of zeolite surfaces. The surfactant modified zeolite by CTAB (SMZ-CTAB) was applied for sorption of Mn(II) ions and eosin anionic dye. Zeolite samples were characterized by FTIR and XRD method, while the concentration of unadsorbed Mn(II) ions and eosin anionic dye was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and UV-Vis Spectrophotometer respectively. The results showed that the adsorption of Mn(II) ions and eosin anionic dye on SMZ-CTAB followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The adsorption capacity of SMZ- CTAB for Mn(II) ions was higher than eosin anionic dye with the amount of adsorption capacity 3.80 x10 -4 mol/g for Mn(II) ions and 3.34 x10 -4 mol/g for eosin anionic dye.
