- The effects of natural zeolite magnetization toward its crystallinity, porosity and performance as a magnetism adsorbent to recover Pb(II) has been conducted. The magnetic zeolite has also been studied its temperature and pH effects regarding with the iron species. Two gram of activated natural zeolite was added into 100 mL of Fe2+ and Fe3+ solutions with molar ratio of Fe2+ : Fe3+ ( 1:2 ). Then, the addition of 0.1 M NH4OH was forming the composite magneticzeolite with pH as high as 9 at 28 °C. The composite was sifted and washed by 10-4 M HCl until pH of 7. It was heated up to 100 oC for an hour. Same procedure was also carried out for understanding the influence of temperature and pH. Characterizations were performed by using infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffractometry and N2 physicosorption. The result showed that optimum condition of zeolite-magnetite sythesis is heating at 85 oC and pH of 11. The optimum pH of Pb(II) adsorption was 5 and the kinetic model fits with second pseudo orde of kinetic model with rate constant of 0.021 (g/mg.min) for the activated zeolite adsorbent and 0.075 (g/mg.min) on the composite zeolite-magnetite. The effect of magnetization showed the transformation of porosity of zeolite from microporous to mesoporous material. The recovery test after its performance zeolite-magnetite composite needs quicker time than activated zeolite.
