  • One of cement is widely used dental Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement (RMGIC) which has good aesthetic. Many factors cause SIKMR degraded, one of which is a carbonated beverage. Almost all people in developing countries consume carbonated beverages. Therefore, the necessary protective materials to protect the surface of the restoration SIKMR. The protective material having nano-sized filler particles are dispersed evenly and hardening monomer with light. One of these materials is nanofilled protective material. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the protective material to the surface roughness restoration nanofilled RMGIC soaked in carbonated beverages. This research was carried out on 14 premolars were cut both ends and in preprasi tonjolnya with a diameter of 5 mm and a depth of 2 mm, then of filled using SIKMR. Subjects were divided into 2 groups: group A group that is not applied as a protective material nanofilled, while group B protective material applied nanofilled. The whole subject of research soaked in carbonated beverages. Treatment is done 5 times soaking / day with a duration of 5 minutes in a single immersion for 14 days and by the turn of immersion using artificial saliva. Surface roughness can be measured using a Surface Roughness Measurement Instrument with measurement results in a graph with the final calculation in units of micrometers. The results of the study t test results showed no statistically significant difference in surface roughness between the two groups ( P> 0.05 ). However, the ANOVA test showed an increase in surface roughness before and sesudan restoration SIKMR immersion in each group. Based on these results, the conclusion is not effective nanofilled protective materials in use in restoration RMGIC.
