  • the most famous timber Teak wood is in Indonesia. However, heart-rot is often found in teak woods, even in the Perum Perhutani plantation. Information on the causes and properties of heart-rot in wood is still limited. The purposes of this study were to determine the variations of extractive content and their composition in teak trees which were attacked by heart-rot. The information of extractives composition concerning the quality of teak could be useful as an approach to determine the cause of the heart-rot. The samples were cut from KPH Randublatung, Perum Perhutani, which consisted of 3 teak trees that affected by heart-rot and a healthy teak tree for comparison purpose. Teak stems in the base part were divided into two parts, there were solid parts (sapwood, outerheartwood, and innerheartwood) and the decayed parts. Successive extraction method was used to determine the composition of extractives by solvents as follows, petroleum ether, ether, acetone/water (9:1, v/v), ethanol/water (8:2, v/v), and water. Fractination of petroleum ether extracts was conducted to separate the neutral and acidic fractions. Fractionation through the saponification process in the neutral fraction was conducted to obtain unsaponifiable and acidic fractions. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data. The levels of total extractive content in the solid wood and decayed wood of heart-rot affected part are ranged of 3.81-8.83% and 2.87-3.26%, respectively. The extractive content of solid wood by petroleum ether, ether, acetone/water, ethanol/water, and water extraction are rangedof 2.08-4.6%
