- Wound healing is the complex and dynamic process that results in the restoration of anatomical continuity and function. Wound healing process really affected by migration and proliferation of fibroblast in wound area. Fibroblast is important component of wound healing that built structural protein for new tissues. Binahong was proven as a wound healing accelerator for its phytochemical properties, such as flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, flavonoid, and ascorbic acid. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of extract of binahongs leaves on gingival wound healing process in white rats in term of fibroblast count. Twenty four rats were wounded by punch biopsy with diameter of 2.5 mm at gingival mucosa below the front teeth of lower jaws with a depth untill periosteum tissues, then separated into three groups :, first group was given 5% extract of binahong leaves, second group was given 10% extract of binahong leaves, and third group was without any treatment (control). Wound tissue taken at 3 rd and 5 th days and processed into histological sample preparations with Hematoxillin eosins staining. The result of two way ANOVA showed that there was significant effect for treatment and the day to fibroblast count (p<0,05). Extract of binahong leaves concentration of 10% had the highest mean on 3 rd day, while on the 5 th day the highest mean was binahong 5% extract. LSD test between treatment group with highest mean from each days and negative control showed extract of binahong leaves 5% have significant difference with other groups (p<0,05).
