- Urban traditional art is works of art which is growing and progressing in urban circle. Sorà ̈ng art is one of urban traditional art in a village named Warangan. This Sorà ̈ng art incorporate with art community in Warangan village named Sanggar Warangan Merbabu. Of course, as an artwork which is grow in urban circle, Sorà ̈ng art has a function and roles for people of Warangan village itself. Therefor, this research is based on question : What is function and roles of Sorà ̈ng art for people of Warangan village? This research used participant observation method in Warangan village (Desa Muneng Warangan, Kecamatan Pakis, Kabupaten Magelang). Furthermore, in-depth interviews were also conducted with some of informan and strengthened with secondary data which were gathered by doing literature study. Sorà ̈ng art is kind of first â��daylight artâ�� which is appear in Warangan village. People of Warangan village have desire to have art entertaiment in their own village that can performe in flexible time. Not like wayang orang or ketoprak which was exist in Warangan people that only performed at night. Therefor, at glory time of Sorà ̈ng art, this art is involved as one of requirement on ritual procession in Warangan village, namely nyadran kali. Sorà ̈ng art also can help generate income for the artist, until Sorà ̈ng art incorporated with art community named Sanggar Warangan Merbabu.
