  • The research entitled â��Indonesian Public Warning Discourse in Yogyakarta: A Pragmatic Analysisâ�� was intended to describe forms, type of speech act, and politeness level in society context contained in public warning discourse. Data was taken in Yogyakarta particularly in Condong Catur that include Minomartani, Perumnas, Sanggrahan, Affandi Street and around. By focusing on written warning discourse, data was obtained by observation method and recording data in data sheet. Data was classified and analyzed using contextual approach. Presentation was done with informal method without using linguistic symbols. Result of the research indicated that written warning discourse in Yogyakarta is mostly found and delivered in short form so meaning of the massage is understandable and easily done. Form of the discourse may be phrase, sentence and sentence combination. Sentence may be minor sentence, single sentence, and complex sentence that can be stated in declarative and imperative modus in active or passive form. Sentence combination is stated in discourse pattern including declarative sentence- declarative sentence, imperative sentencedeclarative sentence, interrogative sentence-declarative sentence, and interrogative sentence-imperative sentence. In pragmatic view, warning discourse is a directive discourse. Its presentation is to regulate otherâ��s behavior and causes something occurs. Its delivery may be direct speech act in imperative form and indirect speech act in declarative and interrogative form. Politeness level in warning discourse include linguistic politeness, which include speech length, speech order, particle â��lah usage, certain lexicon usage and pragmatic politeness stated in use of indirect speech act and use of politeness principle.
