- Traditional markets in the past few years the trend continues to decline, the crude traditional market conditions make traditional markets closely with the impression of dirty, slovenly and dirty in the midst of society. Then the condition is exacerbated by the increasingly rapid growth of the modern market in the city of Yogyakarta. This study was conducted to determine the role of the City of Yogyakarta in managing traditional markets, by conducting case studies in Kranggan Market. Discussion This study is directed to find out how the role of government in managing Kranggan Market and then went to find out the factors that influence the role of government. The research method used is a mixture of research with a descriptive approach because of the nature of this research to provide an overview and explains the problems that occurred on the object of research. Data collection techniques used were interviews, documentation and surveys. The unit of analysis is Kranggan market traders and other parties involved in the management Kranggan Market. The technique of data analysis is to reduce the data that has been collected, then the process of data analysis and then drawing conclusions. The research results revealed that the City of Yogyakarta has initiated efforts to reinforce traditional market, one of which was conducted in the Kranggan Market that serve as a model for the management of traditional markets. Role of Yogyakarta City Government in managing Kranggan Markets have generally been running pretty well, the role of government is run is the role of government in the regulatory function, development and empowerment. With a few correction that must be fixed by the Government of Yogyakarta in carrying out it�s role in the regulation of functions that can not be properly. While the factors that affect is availability budget, merchant participation and cooperation of stakeholders.
