  • Background: The prevalence of children underfive with less weight at the Province of Gorontalo is 26.7% and at District of Bone Bolango is 18.97%. Therapeutic Feeding Center (TFC) at District of Bone Bolango provides intensive nursing care and medication for malnourished children whereby mothers/families are actively involved in taking care of malnourished children. During 2010-2012 there were 59 malnourished patients, but 40.7% of them left before end of nursing period with the condition of not fully normal. Objective: The study aimed to identify causes of forced discharge of malnourished patients underfive years during treatment at TFC District of Bone Bolango. Method: The study used qualitative approach with case study design. Data of the study consisted of secondary data, observation, and indepth interview. Result and Discussion: The perception and attitudes of mothers towards their children when the condition being treated and the socio-economic conditions in which the mother was instrumental in the family be a factor that led to the discontinuation of treatment malnutrition children in TFC or forced discharge. Easy access, type of services and the hospitality of the TFC staf were very good and not become the reasons for force discharge. Continued treatment by primary healthcare officers have been done, but problems were found that patients who did not report when forced discharge. Conclusion and Recommendation: TFC had provided good service and gave attention to convenience the patients and the family. Persuasive approach to the family had to be made in order to minimize cases of forced discharge under the request of the family. Post treatment service had to be provided to monitor growth and development of the patient.
