- Springs which have researched are located on Baturagung Hills of Gedangsari Sub Springs is one source of water for human life. -District, Gunungkidul Regency. The importance of the role of springs in the Gedangsari Sub-District become a reason the study was conducted . The first objective of this study is to find out the character of the springs and the springs catchment area on Gedangsari Sub-District, Gunungkidul through descriptive analysis methods such as debit and character springs springs flow fluctuations . The second objective is to find out the macrorelief factors that influence springs discharge and fluctuations in the study area by analyzing the correlation between lithology , geology , geomorphology , and land use in the vicinity of the emergence of both springs and springs catchment area are expected to know the type of springs that exist in the Gedangsari Sub-District. The results of this study are expected to provide insights into springs character and springs catchment areas character in the study area . Through knowledge of springs character and springs catchment area may the government and the people can keep each catchment areas for the sake of continuity of the springs themselves. The sampling method are not a random sampling ( non probability sampling ) was performed on each springs are utilized in Gedangsari Sub-District population . Data collection technique are through observation, interviews with a population of around springs , as well as reading maps ( map reading ) of research area. The analysis used in this study were descriptive analysis, associative, and causative. The result showed that the springs in the studied area belong to the structural form of the original springs springs fracture ( fractures spring or tubular spring ) and the contact springs. Majority of the springs have discharge < 1 l / sec , and others have a discharge > 1 l / sec. Springs which have a discharge > 1 l / sec is at Kebobutak Formation . Thickness of this formation is made up of water large enough despite lack of rainwater recharge. The main factors affecting the discharge and fluctuations springs are a geological fault structure and the direction of bedding rock .
