  • Stroke becomes significant problem for developing countries. In Indonesia, the data show 234 incidents per 100,000 citizensand around 2 - 8 % stroke patients who suffer from cerebrovascular lesion will also suffer from central neuropathic pain. This happens because of sensory deviation after stroke, so brain cannot completely send the info to the whole body correctly. Rondomized Control Trial done to gabapentin and amitriptylin becomes the first therapy for neuropathic pain .The evidence of medicine effectiveness for neuropathic pain therapy is significantly needed for health personnel to examine the most effective in reducing pain, less side effect, and cost efficiency. Long term disorder after stroke has be reported to be able to reduce life quality that in further can influent feeling, sleeping quality, and daily activity, so it is very important to examine the intensity. The objective of the research is to investigate the therapeutic effect and quality of life comparison of gabapentin and amitriptylin patients as neuropathic pain relief therapy in outpatient ischemic in Jogja Hospital. The method used in this research is quasi experimental with consequtive sampling. The research was conducted in 22nd April -31st July 2013 and involved 23 patients in gabapentin group and 18 patients in amitriptilin group, and then they were evaluated in 1 month. The effectiveness was examined by Visual Analog Scale (VAS) every two weeks while life quality was investigated by Brief Pain Inventory in 0 week and the 4th week. The results of the research that use of gabapentin and amitriptyline for 4 weeks showed a decrease in pain scores measured by VAS, respectively 2.87 ± 1.33 and 2.44 ± 0.78 with a p-value> 0.05, which means no significantly, while for quality of life in the 4thalso shows the value of 1.67 ± 0.78 and 1.37 ± 0.80 pvalue> 0.05, which means no significantly. It can be concluded that effectiveness and quality of life ingabapentin and amitriptilin users as pain relief was not statistically different.
