- The Mesangat swamp in East Kalimantan has the potentially high biodiversity, including a wide variety of bird species. Little information about bird diversity in the Mesangat swamp has been published, and in-depth inventory of bird species been undertaken. Therefore this research aims to study bird diversity in the swamp, their equity, protection status, dominance, and bird guild composition. The degree of bird similarity was studied using Sorensen Indices of similarity, vegetation characteristics and it�s similarity coefficient, and the relationship between the bird richness and plant species were also studied. This study was done in August-September 2012. Research method used was a combination of IPA (Indices Punctuale Abundance) and proportionally purposive sampling. Sixty five sampling sites in flooded area, and 35 sampling sites in the temporary flooded area were choosen. A total of 70 birds species was found in the research area, with a Shannon-Wiener diversity index of 3.26 in flooded areas, and 2.77 in temporary flooded areas
