  • Electrical energy is a very important need for human life. Nowadays, almost every human activities need electrical energy. One of the energy sources used to generate electricity is a geothermal energy source. Geothermal become an alternative energy source because it is easily renewable and environmentally friendly. But there are some problems in its operation process. That problem happened in the process of brine injection into the soil or commonly called as reinjection systems. The problem was scale formation in the pipe. Main factor that cause scaling is drop of the brine temperature during reinjection process. Natural cooling system which has been done all the time cannot drop brine temperature significantly and reduce scaling. Therefore, forced cooling system is needed to drop the brine temperature before it is injected into the soil to reduce scaling in the injection pipe. In this study, the cooling system which is used is a cooling tower. By using a cooling tower, the brine temperature is expected to decrease into ambient temperature before it is injected into the soil. Therefore, the heat transfer does not occur again in the injection pipe, so the formation of scale can be reduced. Design process begins with a literature study and data collection that was done in # PAD29 PT. Geo Dipa Energi Dieng. Based on the analysis and calculations, we obtain the design of the cooling tower, it is counterflow induced draft cooling tower with packing splash type deck I. This cooling towerâ��s dimensions are 3,54 m x 3,25 m x 10,11 m, and use 30 hp AC motors to rotate 4 blades fan with 8 feets diameter. This cooling tower can decrease the brine temperature from 93oC to 39oC.
