- Isolation and etherification of humic acid and their application for adsorption-reduction kinetics study of Au(III) containing Cu(II) and Ni(II) have been conducted. Humic acid was isolated from peat soil from Rawa Pening, Jawa Tengah with NaOH 0.1 M, then precipitated with HCl 0.1 M until pH � 1, and purified with 0.1 M HCl/0.3 M HF. Humic acid before and after purification were characterized by FTIR spectrometer, XRD and ash content. Etherification of humic acid was performed by reacting humic acid with dimethylsulfate (DMS) in methanol-water solvent. Etherified humic acid was characterized by FTIR spectrometer. To determine the selectivity of etherified humic acid, it is interaction with Au(III) using Cu(II) or Ni(II) as a competitor ion was also conducted. The adsorption-reduction of Au(III) ion on etherified humic acid with addition of Cu(II) and Ni(II) was determined by AAS. The gold metal formed was confirmed by FTIR and XRD. The result obtained from the pure humic acid isolated as much as 22.5 g/kg (humic acid/peat soil). The isolated humic acid has 29.6% ash content and after purification has 0.7% ash content. The adsorption rate constant (k) with Ho kinetics model for Au(III) adsorption on etherified humic acid, Au(III) adsorption with addition of Cu(II) and Au(III) adsorption with addition of Ni(II) are 6.58x10-4 g/mg min., 2.35x10-4 g/mg min., and 2.00x10-4 g/mg min., respectively.
