- Yogyakarta is one of the city in Indonesia which as many historical value. One of them is Jalan KHA. Dahlan. The name itself is taken from the local national hero, KHA. Ahmad Dahlan. This area has the typical street wall visual character because there is a mixes of architectural styles include Chinese architecture (Chinatown), Islamic architecture (Kauman), and Colonial. This area also has potential as a public space that can accommodate about community activities and attract tourists to enjoy the unique street wall. Fragment Jl. KHA. Dahlan region decreased visual quality. This research aims to determine the dominant characteristic and the factors that affect the street wall visual character as an effort to improve the visual area of Jl. KHA. Dahlan so in the planning of this region in the future, the results of this study could be the basis of the direction of the planning area. The method used is qualitative rationalistic method, namely finding problems in the field, making a framework for research, and process data quantitatively. The data was then analyzed by collaborating variable visual quality and visual characteristics to measure the street wall visual quality of the area Jl. KHA. Dahlan. Preparation of design guide line done by finding the visual character of the street wall space, and find the points of potential corridors for implementation in the character of the area. The results of this study indicate that the character of a room wall street visually region is formed of the style / building styles, street wall components, and is influenced by the function of the building. While for maintaining a character, it is necessary to know the appropriateness rate, the in-harmony rate, or the existence of the contextual.
