- Water is the basic need for people, include the people from Umbulharjo village and Kepuharjo village, Cangkringan district, Sleman regency. The water in the research area is used to fulfill agriculture, industry, and domestic need. They use springs as the main water source. The purposes of this research are: to analysis springs potential, to analysis the pattern of domestic use in the research area, and to arrange spring management strategy. All active spring in the research area have been surveyed. The field work is used to calculate the spring discharge, to check the physical quality of the springs, and to collect water sample in order to check the chemical quality of the springs by laboratory test. Interview is conducted by random sampling method to 96 villagers to determine the pattern of springs utilization and spring management by the local community. Interview is also conducted by purposive sampling to 9 respondents to arrange spring management strategy. Springs potential and utilization pattern are analyzed by descriptive method. The spring management strategy is analyzed by Analytical Hierarchy Process via expert choice 11 software. The result show that there are 4 active springs in the research area. The high potential springs are Umbulwadon dan Sidorejo spring. The low potential springs are Pentingsari 1 and Pentingsari 2 spring. Most of the spring are used for bathing, washing, and livestock drinking. Theoretically the springs discharge have been sufficient the domestic need, but in reality there are many people in Umbulharjo and Kepuharjo village who have difficulties in getting access to the clean water. The community uses simple method such as dandan kali and hereditary rules to manage the springs. Springs management strategies that could be apply in the research area are maintaining the protected areas, rehabilitating the damaged land, draining back some springs discharge into the river, collecting the spring data, and strengthening the institutional and regulatory.
