- A lot of research on castellated beam have been done. One of them was done in 2012 which reviewed about shear strength of castellated beam using laboratory test and simpe analysis method. The purpose of this research is to gain a comparison of shear strength and shear behaviour of castellated beam using laoratory test, simple analysis method, and finite element method. An IWF 150x75x7x5, a castellated beam 225x75x7x5, a castellated beam with additional stiffener in the middle of the span, and a castellated beam with concrete filler between the flanges were used as specimens. Result given from the finite element method were maximum load, stress and strain distribution, and also failure mode of each specimen. The maximum load of IWF, ICB, ICS, and ICC respectively were 214,59 kN, 102,92 kN, 202 kN, and 470,94 kN. The maximum load of IWF and ICB were almost the same as the ones obtained from simple analysis method. The difference between those were about 4,79% on IWF and 7,20% on ICB. The ICS had a similarity with the one from laboratory test with a difference about 10,38%. The shear strength of ICS and ICC increased around 96,24% and 119,46% towards the initial models. Meanwhile the shear strength of ICB decreased around 52,04%. IWF showed a flange buckling as its mode of failure while ICB showed a web buckling one. The additional stiffener on ICS changed the failure modes into flexture mechanism. ICC have a cracking on its concrete as the failure modes.
