  • Stability of long-distance marriage on seaman couples is an interesting phenomenon to be studied. It is an extreme long distance-marriage because the couple separated for three until six months with limited verbal communication. Therefore, this study aims to comprehend the essence (s) of stability of longdistance marriage on seaman couples. This study used qualitative method through phenomenological tradition. The data collected through in-depth interview and documentation. The respondents are four Protestant couples who had married for 14 years. The result showed that there are two main themes in the stability of long-distance marriage on seaman couples, namely: prayer and longing. Prayer is a medium in Protestantâ��s ritual used by respondents to connect indirectly with spouse who being at home or sailing. It contained respondentsâ�� petition to The Creator about spouseâ��s safety, marital sustainability, and their responsibilities as spouses and parents. Longing is manifestation of respondentsâ�� feeling when staying apart with spouse and children. It led them to call spouse, view familyâ��s photos and videos, and get homesick. The interesting finding in this study is the essences of stability of long-distance marriage on inter-seaman couple were influenced by personality tendencies and near-death experiences and the suffering which had ever been experienced by respondent previously.
