- Each city must undergo spatial development, either fast or slow. In order to determine the spatial development of the city, there should be at least two points in time (temporal). Spatial developments were marked by both land conversion from agricultural to non-agricultural or other land use change and will form certain patterns and spatial structure. This study analyzes the spatial developments that occurred in the city of Gorontalo in the period 2000 to 2010 using the spatial approach (spatial approach). The purpose of this research are: 1) patterns, structures, processes, determinant factors, spatial tendency and impact of Gorontalo city spatial development in the period from year 2000 to 2010. Primary and secondary data were analyzed by descriptive and maps analysis. The results obtained in this study are: 1) the development of spatial pattern in the form of concentric Gorontalo city in the North and Northwest and scattered form another part of the city, 2) Spatial structure of Gorontalo city in 2000, departement store and the government are in the northern of Kota Selatan District, Kota Tengah district is dominated by the settlement, Kota Utara District is dominated rice. Coconut dominated in Dungingi District, 3) Spatial structure in 2010, Kota Utara District paddy and coconut plantations in the district Dungingi large enough land over the function. Spatial structure changes in the others parts of Gorontalo do not show significant changes, 4) The process of spatial changes that occur in the city of Gorontalo due to the need for space, shelter and activities of citizens Gorontalo, 5) Accessibility, land owner characteristics and developers initiatives, determinants spatial development of Gorontalo city, 6) customs determinant factor for the spatial development of Gorontalo city
