  • Melon (Cucumis melo L.) Gama Melon Parfum (GMP) cultivar has potential be used as a perfume raw material, which is still dependent on import products. GMP cultivar is the result of cross breeding between Natsuno Omoide (NO3) and Miyamauri (MR5) melons. The genetic variation of GMP has been identified, but the parents have not been studied yet. This study was aimed to analyze the genetic variation of GMPâs parents, then compared with GMP, to determine the fenetic relationship between GMP and its parents. Genetic variation of GMPâs parents, the NO3 and MR5 analyzed using the Polymerase Chain Reaction-Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (PCR-RAPD) method with 11 primers. Level of genetic similarity was determined by Simple Matching Coefficient (SSM) and dendogram constructed by clustering analysis using Unweighted Pair-Group Arithmetic Averages (UPGMA). PCR-RAPD with 11 primers produced 186 loci consisting of 94.09% polymorphic DNA and 5.91% of monomorphic DNA. Result of the analysis of genetic variation suggests that GMP cultivar has fenetic relationship with NO3 in 51.43% of similarity and MR5 in 44.30% of similarity. MR5 has specific DNA bands on the size of 220 bp, 480 bp, 730 bp, and 1100 bp with OPAX-16 primer
