Daftar Isi:
- Broiler is a type of chiken which produces meat in short period. However, the fat is not utilize widely, so it becomes waste of slaughter houses. As an alternative solution, the fat could be processed to biodiesel to minimize enviromental pollution and increase its economic value. This study is aimed to process the broiler chiken fat with transesterification method using methanol and sodium hydroxide as catalyst. The fat was collected from some traditional markets in the East Java Province and Yogyakarta Special Territory. The fat was melted then reacted with methanol and sodium hydroxide at 55 oC for 60 minutes. The process was replicated four times and the samples coded as NA-1, NA-2, NA-3, and NA-4. The samples were analyzed its biodiesel quality, i.e. specific gravity, kinematic viscosity, flash point, pour point, cloud point, copperstrip corrosion, carbon residue, ash content, and water content . The biodiesel production reaches 99,4%, 91,7%, 100%, and 101,3% of NA-1, NA-2, NA-3, and NA-4 samplees, respectively, if compared with the broiler chiken fat as primary source. The result of biodiesel quality show that mean of specific gravity: 0.8821 g/ml, kinematic viscosity: 6.427 mm2/second, flash point: 30.5oC, pour point: 4.5oC, cloud point: 38.25oC, cooperstrip corrosion: 3a, Conradson carbon residue: 0.36%, ash content: 0.19%, and water content: 1.8%.
