  • Rapid population growth in major cities in Indonesia pushes infrastructure development. Constructions of residential areas, highways, factories and other infrastructures have changed the existing land use. The decrease of water catchment area in a region results in increasing amount of surface runoff during the rain. If the amount of runoff exceeds the drainage capacity of existing drainage channel, flood water will inundate the area around the channel. These inundation problems also frequently occur in Yogyakarta, especially in areas along Belik River in Kelurahan Terban and Klitren. During the rainy season, these two locations are frequently hit by floods that result in losses to various parties. This study was conducted to determine the performance of drainage channel in Belik River Kelurahan Terban and Klitren. In this analysis, the channel will be burdened by flood discharge plan with return period of 2, 5, and 10 years. Rainfall intensity is calculated with the Haspers method, while the peak flood discharge plan is calculated using the Rational method. Hydraulics modeling of the channel is generated using HEC-RAS v.4.0 program with steady flow analysis. Simulations are carried out on existing conditions, on the influence of UGM retention pond, and on the influence of zero runoff at UGM. The results showed that total flood discharge entering Belik River to the research downstream limit are 12.73 m3/s for 10-year return period
