  • Echinoderms are zoobenthic which can be found in most all marine ecosystems. The main factors affecting the distribution and abundance of Echinoderms in the intertidal zone is substrates condition, food availability, and other environmental parameters. In addition, human activities such as tour and harvest are also factors that influenced the presence of Echinoderms in the intertidal zone. This research aimed to study the distribution and abundance of Echinoderms in intertidal zone of Kukup and Porok Beach, Gunungkidul, D. I. Yogyakarta. The study was conducted in April, May, and June 2013 using a squared transect method. This research using squared plot 100x100 cm 2 . Each plots were counted Echinoderms, estimated percent cover of macroalgae, measured temperature, salinity, and pH of the water, and water sampling. The results showed that Echinoderms found consisted of 4 species: 3 represent the species of the class Echinoidea: Echinometra sp., Heterocentrotus sp., and Colobocentrotus sp.
