- Background: Person�s pain response influenced by experience of pain, anxiety, depression, culture, age, gender, etc. Pain management covers all aspects: physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural. Pain response and pain treatment influenced by cultural factors and experiences, different in each country. Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) is a nursing interventions taxonomy that has been implemented in Indonesia for more than a decade. It is important to evaluate the implementation of NIC Pain Management in Indonesia. Objective: Evaluate the implementation of NIC Pain Management in Inpatient Ward (IRNA) 1 RSUP DR. Sardjito Yogyakarta. Methods: A descriptive quantitative study, adapting the validation method of nursing diagnoses proposed by Fehring (1987). The respondents were 19 bachelor degree nurses of IRNA 1 in DR. Sardjito Hospital. The research instrument used was the questionnaire of implementation of NIC Pain Management. Results: Ten of 43 (23,26%) NIC Pain Management activities known by 19 nurses (100%) as pain management. Amounted 27 activities (62,79%) considered important by nurses. Thirty-three activities (76,74%) are sometimes and rarely implemented in IRNA 1 DR. Sardjito Hospital. The condition caused by the limitations of time, nursing staff, and facilities, as well as the intervention difficulty level. Limitting the number of visitors as appropriate is NIC non Pain Management activity, that is known by 94,74% (18 nurses) as pain management. Conclusions: Amounted to 62,79% NIC Pain Management activities (27 activities) considered important by nurses. Thirty-three (76,74%) activities of NIC Pain management are rarely and sometimes implemented in IRNA 1 DR. Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta.
