- Opening forest areas for shifting cultivation activities causes environmental impacts such as leaving bare lands along the tracts, loss of nutrients and other environmental impacts. Those impacts are reduced with increasing age of the abandonment of shifting cultivation due to the succession process, especially the composition of vegetation. Therefore, the study of the changes in species composition and stand structure on various ages of shifting cultivation land needs to be done to understand the changes of succession on shifting cultivation land. This research was conducted on shifting cultivation lands with certain fallow periodes i.e: 1, 5 and 10 years. At each location was made a 1 ha plot. The observation of plants on each plot was done using nested sampling, size 2 m x 2 m for seedling, 5 m x 5 m for sapling, 20 m x 20 m for pole and tree. The measured variable is the name, amount and distribution of species for seedling and sapling levels. The name of the species were identified and counted
