Daftar Isi:
- Alginate can be contaminated with saliva and blood when used to duplicate the patient's oral cavity. Recommended disinfection method was immersion of the alginate impressions in 2% glutaraldehyde solution at certain minutes. Alginate impressions would absorb water on contact with water and reduce the accuracy of alginate impressions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect immersion time in 2% glutaraldehyde solution on the dimensional stability of alginate impressions. Alginate (Aroma Fine, Japan), 2% glutaraldehyde solution (Sigma-Aldrich, USA), and the master cast (30x30x20 mm) were used in this study. Alginate powder was mixed with distilled water (p/w=50 g/119.04 ml) and the impression of the master cast was taken. Twelve samples were divided into 3 groups of immersion in 2% glutaraldehyde, namely 0 minutes immersion group (group A), 10 minutes immersion group (group B), and 20 minutes immersion group (group C). Then the alginat impressions were filled with dental stone. The dimension of dental stone models were measured (length, width, and height) with vernier caliper (0.02 mm precision) and volume of the models were calculated. The data were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA (p=0.05). The results showed that the means and standard deviations of dental stone models volume were 17648.35 ± 86.78 mm3 (group A), 17626.19 ± 164.49 mm3 (group B), and 17461.06 ± 92.41 mm3 (group C). The results of the ANOVA test did not show signifficant effect of immersion time in 2% glutaraldehyde solution on dimensional stability of alginate impressions. Key words: immersion time, 2% glutaraldehyde solution, alginate impressions, dimensional stability.
