  • Pregnancy causes the wide physiological changes occured in the oral cavity due to hormonal influences. This situation caused by changes in progesterone hormone levels that occur during pregnancy. Condition of the teeth and mouth often marked by the presence of gums that bleed easily because of the gum tissue respond local irritation more excessive. The level and pattern production of collagen in the gingiva also influenced by these hormones. This research aims to determine the relationship between changes in levels of the progesterone hormone with the density of gingiva collagen fibers in pregnancy (studies in Sprague dawley). This research used a sample group of 4 Sprague dawley, 10th day pregnancy, 14th day pregnancy, 17th day pregnancy, and didnâ��t pregnant as the control group, each group 3 tails of Sprague dawley. All the groups took to measure blood serum, and then tested and analyzed with ELISA reader to measure the level of progesterone hormon, while for the density of gingiva collagen fibers taken from gingiva of lower jaw and made preparations painted with Trichrom Mallory, and then observed under the microscope. Spearman correlation test used to data analysis. The results showed significant relationship with a negative direction (p<0,05) between changes in the levels of the hormone progesterone and a density of gingiva collagen fibers, with a correlation coefficient by-0,949. The conclusions of this research, higher levels of the progesterone hormone in pregnancy, the density of gingiva collagen fibers that formed on decreased (studies in Sprague dawley).
