- Synthesis of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) via reduction of AgNO3 in chitosan solution as stabilizer and hydrazine sulphate as redactor has been performed in order to obtain colloidal AgNPs with uniform size and high stability. Size and shape control of AgNPs were done by using variation chitosan and Ag + precursor. Reduction of Ag + ions were done for 2 hours at 90C in 0.6-1.0% chitosan solution with the initial concentration of AgNO3 200-1000 mg/L. Homogenity and stability product were analysed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer periodically, weekly for a month. The crystal structure and particles size were analysed using XRD and TEM, and the initial rate of reaction was analysed by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that colloidal AgNPs was formed, marked by UV-Vis adsorption peak around 418-431 nm. The XRD confirmed that AgNPs have fcc crystal structure with the lattice parameter of 0.4098 nm. The initial kinetics of Ag nucleation follows the pseudo second order of reaction. TEM images showed that AgNPs are spherical shape. The synthesized AgNPs at 200 mg/L and 1000 mg/L have mean diameter 19 nm and 20 nm, respectively. The colloidal AgNPs stability was influenced by the concentration of Ag + precursor and chitosan. The most stable AgNPs with uniform size were successfully synthesized at a condition of the excess hydrazine sulphate, 0.8% chitosan concentration and AgNO3 200 mg/L
