Daftar Isi:
- Many coastal areas in Indonesia, has potency of renewable energy, such as wind, although the wind speed is low. Special design for low speed wind turbine is required, because wind turbines have specific characteristics, depend on the wind profile in which the wind turbines will be built. Unfortunately, most of wind turbines on the market, are not produced in Indonesia, but in Europe or America. Therefore, it needs a research to design a low-speed wind turbines which meet wind speed profile in Indonesia. This design is based on Blade Element Momentum Method, which is a combination of momentum theory and blade element theory by varying the value of Tip Speed Ratio (λ) to get the best value of power coefficient (Cp). Before designing, the methods that is used need to be validated, by laboratory-scale wind turbine testing with Aquila airfoil, 30o of twist angle, and 25 cm of blade length. The validation results using Blade Element Momentum Method calculations and CFD simulations show a difference Cp value of 10.3% compared to the laboratory test results. This value show that wind turbine design methods are acceptable. After knowing the value of these difference, designing of wind turbine was done with 4m/s wind velocity and airfoil S2091-101-83. Analysis results of low speed wind turbine design, show that it has 0.479 of Cp on 4 of optimal λ.
