- Marriage is one of the stages of life experienced by every human being. Moreover, marriage is not to meet human needs, but also to continue the biological offspring, but it is the fulfillment of human existence marriage in society. Therefore, in this study the researcher has the purpose to explain the stages in the execution of the wedding ceremony. This study also aims to find and explain the meaning of symbols in Sundanese traditional wedding ceremony. This study uses a theoretical framework Ernst Cassirer symbolic form, aims to determine whether the use of the symbol has its own philosophical meaning. For that, in meeting the objectives of this study, the authors use a hermeneutic method-reflective with actual historical research model, then use the search tool in the literature related data, while the methodical elements used are: description, holistika, interpretation, internal coherence. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the process is essentially the Sundanese people believe that one human life is marriage. To enter this stage of life, they must hold a ceremonial first. Therefore, in a ceremonial procession kegaiatan wedding, Sundanese people using various objects as symbols or symbol that has a special meaning. That is, an attempt to ask for safety and happiness in marriage. In addition, the study found that a mythical element dominant element in the wedding ceremony, a symbol of the myth is certainly not created a brief, but based on a long process. Thus, although the longer the marriage ceremonies conducted a formality, because sometimes incompatible with the religion that is embraced by the majority of the Sundanese people. However, it is necessary for society to preserve Sundanese traditional wedding ceremony, because in the tradition of community identity Sundanese are virtuous and religious.
