  • Regeneration of Pt/zeolite and H-zeolite catalyst for the activity test in the esterification reaction of acetic acid and ethanol has been done. Catalyst regeneration was done with calcination using a microwave oven 450 watt for 30 minutes. Oxidation process by using oxygen gas and reduction process using hydrogen gas at temperature of 400 oC with a flow rate of 20 mL/min for 2 hours. After each catalyst was regenerated, it was characterized by using BET analysis and pyridine adsorption. Catalyzed esterification reaction with Pt/zeolite at a concentration of 1% and 3% (w/w) was refluxed in order to find the optimum catalyst weight. Further, esterification reaction was also conducted with the regenerated Pt/zeolite and Hzeolite in the reflux system with variations of 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours to produce the optimum reaction time. The product was characterized by using GC and GC-MS spectrometers. The results showed that the acidity of pyridine on regenerated Pt/zeolite 0.520 mmol/g and regenerated H-zeolite 0.164 mmol/g, the surface area of the catalyst Pt/zeolite and H-zeolite regeneration were 28 m2/g and 84 m2/g respectively, pore volume of the catalyst Pt/zeolite and H-zeolite regeneration were 7.32x10-2 cc/g and 10.05x10-2 cc/g respectively, average porosity radius of the catalyst Pt/zeolite and Hzeolite regeneration were 52 Ã and 23 Ã respectively. The optimum weight of Pt/zeolite catalyst was 1% (w/w) in 5 hours. The used of Pt/zeolite and H-zeolite catalyst regeneration in the esterification reaction to produce ethyl acetate were 54.279% with the optimum time of 5 hours and 99.48% with the optimum time 4 hours. Catalyst which have a higher surface area will have a greater activity.
