- The attention on clean water sector is significantly increasing. During the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johanesburg, September 2 -4, clean water became the attention of five fields that were discussed, they were water, energy, health, agriculture, and biodiversity (given acronim as WEHAB). Placed first indicates that clean water (or generalized as sanitation and water source) contains significant importance in the development of the aspect of economy, social and environment. Many efforts were done, moreover on the big scale building for this water supply matter, like clean water saving, waste water management, and also rain water harvesting. On this research, an analysis will be conducted on the design of rain water harvesting (RWH) system on public building with case study of Novotel Hotel Yogyakarta. The main activity is to do feasibility study on the exsisting building condition and analyze the saving potential with the aplication of RWH system. Rain water runoff that is usually disposed directly to the city water ways will be collected in a storage tank, and then treated so that it meets the drinking water quality standard developed by WHO and used as a clean water source in the hotel. Beside that, this design of RWH system also refers to Greenship Rating Tools developed by GBCI (Green Building Council Indonesia). Based on the calculation, The average rain water runoff stored in a month is about 478,820 liters, and within a year, the rain water runoff stored is about 5,745,809 liters. During the rainy season, rain water can supply the water consumption of the hotel for about 21% of the total water consumption in a month. Anually, the rain water can supply the water consumption of the hotel for about 8.6%.
