- Background: The occurrence of complications during pregnancy causes more than 530,000 deaths of women in the world. This condition is exacerbated due to delay in treatment, malnutrition and anemia. Health promotion strategies remains a key strategy to decrease morbidity and mortality due to pregnancy. Including utilizing mobile technology (mHealth). Objective: This study aims to look at the benefits of SMS technology as a medium for health promotion to pregnant women particularly about mother's knowledge on maternal complications and nutritional intake. Methods: Quasi-experimental one group pre-post test design conducted on 49 pregnant women in the first and second trimester in Astambul sub-district, Banjar. Intervention programs using SMS gateway had designed to automatically to sending a message to pregnant women daily for 2 months. After intervention measured maternal perceptions towards the use of SMS reminders media campaign. Analysis of pre and post tests were statistically tested using paired samples t-test test with 95% confidence level, while the mother's perception measurements were analyzed descriptively Results: The results of pre-test and post-test shows that there is an increased understanding of the maternal complications of pregnancy and nutrient intake after SMS-based promotion interventions (p <0,05). SMS reminder is perceived easy, attractive and innovative. Conclusion: SMS Media prove useful to convey health information. This research is expected to raise awareness of mothers in routine antenatal care (antenatal care) to medical personnel.
