Daftar Isi:
- A study of iodine isotope adsorption using activated carbon made from coconut shell coal has been conducted. The objective of this study was to determine the ability of activated coconut shell carbon with varied parameter, and furthermore it can be used to be an adsorbent material in iodine trap column either for producing 131I radioisotope or iodine waste treatment. Adsorption process performed using a vertical column system with downwards fluid flow direction. Variance conducted on adsorbent were column lengths of 5 cm, 7 cm, and 9 cm along with activated carbon grain sizes of 100 mesh, 150 mesh, and 200 mesh. KI solution of 85 ml acted as feed with 127I concentration of 506 mg/l flowed through activated carbon with 3 ml/minute of flow rate. The 127I final concentration after adsorption process was analyzed by using Spectrophotometer UV-Vis. The result show an increase amount of iodine adsorbed with an increase in column length and decrease in grain size. The best result shown on the column length of 9 cm and the grain size of 200 mesh, giving the adsorption efficiency of 53.476%, adsorption capacity of 1.529 mg/g, and decontamination factor of 2.1494. The best adsorption type to describe an adsorption proccess in activated coconut shell carbon is physisorption.
