- The purpose of this study are the following: (1) to determine differences in the overall ratio and anterior ratio according to Bolton�s analysis between Javanese and Chinese, (2) to determine differences in the overall ratio and anterior ratio according to Bolton�s analysis between men and women in Javanese and Chinese, (3) to investigate the interaction between ethnic and gender in influencing the overall ratio and anterior ratio according to Bolton�s analysis on the Javanese and Chinese. This type of research is ex post facto using selected random sampling methods. The subject of this study were 60 students from the Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University, consisted of 15 men and 15 women Javanese, and 15 men and 15 women Chinese, 18-23 years old , normal occlusion, and fully erupted permanent dentition from first molars in one side to first molar in the other side. The measurements were taken on dental cast of the subject teeth by sliding calipers, then calculate the overall ratio and anterior ratio according to Bolton�s analysis and then two-way analyses of variance (ANOVA). The results were obtained as follows: (1) the was certain normal value for Bolton�s overall ratio and anterior ratio based on the Javanese, the overall ratio was 93.54 and anterior ratio was 80.47
