  • Filtration process of soybean slurry, to filter the soybean filtrate and cake at home industry tofu makers nowadays still done with traditional way and it canâ��t be efficient in the term of technology. However, this process filtering has an effect to the taste, quality and also quantity of tofu, so this process filtering must be done with approach of simple technology. Centrifugal filtration can be applied for this process filtering. Therefore this research has aims to design filter of soybean filtrate and cake using centrifugal method which occur in axial direction, then determine the constant design of centrifugal filter and also to measure the effect of rotational speed at filtration flow rate. This research begins with designing the engineering drawing of filter, then making the filter itself, and after that, testing the performance of filter. This performance test is done by using soybean slurry from home industry tofu maker at Dusun Krapyak, Desa Margoagung, Seyegan District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. Data collect in this performance test are volume and mass of soybean filtrate every minute and also cake mass that deposited at filter tube for each variation of rotational speed of 350, 490, 630 and 770 rpm. Control variable in this research are viscosity, density and solid content of soybean slurry. The result of research showed that with faster rotary speed, the process filtering will be done quickly. At 630 rpm of rotational speed, the centrifugal filter that designed works optimally. It known at the percentage of volume and mass of soybean filtrate showed the largest number by 62% for volume and 55% for mass, and also it has minimum cake mass. Based on that, can be concluded the specific resistance of filter cake is . The economic feasibility analysis of this research done by applied the centrifugal filter with scale-up on 25 litres of soybean slurry per process filtering. It show that home industry tofu makers feasible at profit 1.17 time for each unit of capital cost and also the return of investment in ± 1 year.
