- Background. Febrile seizure is the most common form of seizure in children between 6 months to 5 years of age. It occur in 2-5 % children and has good prognosis. Zinc has an important role in development of the central nervous system. The study about serum zinc level in children with febrile seizure was limited. e Objective. To compare the serum zinc level in children with and without febrile seizure and correlation between serum zinc level and febril seizure. Methods. A case-control study was conducted during July 2012 to October 2012 in Dr. Sardjito General Hospital and Sleman General Hospital, Yogyakarta. Thirty-eight children aged 6 months to 5 years with febrile seizure and 38 children with febrile without seizure were entrolled. Serum zinc level was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Data was analized with independent t test, chi-suare n spearman. Results. The mean serum zinc level in children with febrile seizure and children with febrile without seizure were 95.4 ug/dL and 100.9 ug/dL, respectively. There was no significant difference statistically between serum zinc level and febrile seizure in children [OR 1,49 (CI 95 % 0,428 to 5,191), P= 0,529].
