  • Tumpek Pengatag sacred ritual is an oral tradition which still survives in the Penglipuran traditional village society. It is a ceremony which categorized as a sacred ritual which is held as a realization of the societies gratitude to Sang Hyang Widhi for the nature overflow of good luck. The ritual cannot be separated from the presence of ballad. Ballad as a part of the culture has a close relationship with the cultural society supporters. The objectives of the research are to reveal the oarality aspects as stated by Albert B Lord and revelas the values which are contained in the ballad itself. The material objects of this study is the text of Dewa Yajna ballad which is conducted in the Tumpek Pengatag ceremonies obtained through recording process and supported by the data collected from the interviews and literature. The research problems to be discussed are the aspects of orality which includes transmission processes, formulas, formulaic expressions, aspects of performance, and values contained in the ballad for the benefit of Penglipuran Traditional Village societies. The method used in conducting this research is ethnographic research method. The research results showed that the tradition of chanting Dewa Yajna ballad on Tumpek Pengatag ceremony was sung by sinden. Sinden consists of twenty old women. A sinden through a transmission phase which is called passive transmission that she should memorize the ballad word by word with the study with the Dewa Yajna ballad expert teacher. The ceremony itself was not accompanied by musical instruments, but only rely on the sound of chanting from sinden. The convention of Tumpek Pengatag ritual are consisted by the preparations, rituals, and closing. Dewa Yajna ballad consists of three main parts, they are the opening or kawitan, the main ballad or pangawak, and the closing. The formula contained in the songs can be defined as the mentions of bebanten, the mentions of God abode, the mentions of Hyang Widhi manifestation in the forms of God, and the hope to be achieved from the implementation of ritual. The phrases in the formula are the stock in trade that resides in the sinden minds. The functions of Dewa Yajna ballad in the ceremony as the bridesmaid of Tumpek Pengatag so itâ��s able to create solemn shades and have many Hindu religious values and environmental conservation efforts.
