  • Anxiety is an independent predictor of cardiovascular events. Increased platelet reactivity is one of several possible mechanisms proposed to explain the relationship between psychosocial factors with coronary heart disease. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is an indicator of platelet activation. MPV associated with major cardiovascular events in coronary heart disease. This study aimed to determine the correlation of MPV with anxiety symptoms in patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP).The study design was cross-sectional study. Sampling was carried out in sequence from SAP patients who were treated at internal medicine department of Dr. Sardjito hospital yogyakarta. MPV and HAD score were measured once on admission. Data presented as a descriptive analysis of the subjects characteristics in average and standard deviation. Correlation of MPV with anxiety symptoms in patient with SAP assessed with Pearson's correlation. The results were considered at the significance level of p<0.05. There were 39 subjects, consisting of 19 SAP with anxiety and 20 SAP without anxiety. The mean levels of MPV in this study was 7.56 ± 0.95 fl, mean MPV in SAP patients with anxiety was 7.99 ± 1.00 fl, whereas in SAP patients without anxiety was 7.16 ± 1.00 fl. There is a moderate correlation between MPV levels with scores of anxiety and statistically significant (r = 0.417 p = 0.008). There is a positive correlation between MPV with anxiety in patients with stable angina pectoris. Patients with higher anxiety scores correlated with higher MPV values and were statistically significantly different.
