  • Background: The landfill has a very important function, but may impact the environmental degradation caused by the pile of garbage produces a variety of pollutants that can cause air pollution. Residential of population around landfill risky exposed to health problems caused by gas pollutants. Pollutant gases from landfill gas will be produced, among others, sulfur dioxide gas (SO2), ammonia gas (NH3), and hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) which are toxic to the body. Objective: This study aimed to determine the factors associated with indoor air quality around the landfill Sitimulyo village Piyungan district Bantul regancy. Methods: This research is a cross-sectional study. The total sample of 39 homes. Data was collected through observation and measurement of air quality in the home. Observation data and results of examination of samples in the laboratory were analyzed using univariate and bivariate t-test and linear regression and multivariate logistic regression methods. Results: The results showed a significant correlation between distance with air quality in home (NH3 and H2S) (p value = 0.05 and 0.01), a significant correlation between temperature with air quality in homes (SO2) (p value = 0.002), a significant correlation between altitude with air quality in homes (H2S) (p value = 0.01), a significant correlation between wind speed with air quality in homes (NH3) (p value = 0.000), the multivariate analysis shows that the variable temperature is the dominant variable affecting SO2 air quality parameters, variable wind speed is the dominant variable affecting the air quality in NH3 parameters, the distance is the dominant variable affecting air quality parameters of H2S. Conclusion: Correlation was found between distance, temperature, altitude and wind speed with the air quality in the home and no correlation between the physical quality of houses and residential density with air quality in homes around the landfill.
