  • Preparation of an iron(III) slow release materials using chitosan and zeolite and evaluation of their release behavior in the 0.33 M citric acid solution have been done. The composites were prepared by mixing zeolite, chitosan gel, and Fe(III) solution, then the mixture was dripped into NaOH solution. Composite synthesis was carried out by varying the mass of chitosan and zeolite. The structure of composites was characterized using infrared spectrophotometer and X-ray diffraction. Composite surface morphology was analyzed using SEM, the role of chitosan chain in covering zeolite-Fe was analyzed using TEM, while the thermal stabilities of composites were analyzed using TGA. The morphology that was The SEM images showed obviously the rough morphology, zeolite-Fe aggregation, and void formation with the increase of zeolite mass. smooth without appreciable zeolite-Fe aggregation and void could be observed from the SEM image of the composites with the increase of chitosan mass. The dark field (DF) image of TEM confirmed that the bright region of zeolite-Fe became more unobservable in the composite with high chitosan content. The testing of composite release behavior in the 0.33 M citric acid solution showed that Fe(III) ions were released slowly from the composites with high zeolite mass content and it had low release efficiency. However, Fe(III) ions were released quickly from the composites with high chitosan mass content and it had high release efficiency.
