  • Background: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is part of hospital which has specialized staff and equipment. Staff who involved are physicians intensivis ICU, doctors who have been trained and ICU trained nurses. ICU has relatively high mortality, it is approximately 25%. The high mortality rate indicates need of palliative care to improve the quality of life, not just curative treatment which cures the patient. Effectiveness measurement of a team is crucial, especially in special provision like palliative care in complex settings like ICU. Aim: The study aimed to find out the figure of effectiveness of the ICU team on providing palliative care in ICU RSUP Dr. Sardjito, Yogyakarta. Method: This is quantitative descriptive research. The sample is all members of the ICU team RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta, refer to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, finally got 20 people. They filled out a questionnaire named Team Effectiveness Tool with reference the palliative case of medical records. The study begun on December 22nd, 2012 until January 27th, 2013. Univariate analysis illustrates the effectiveness of the ICU team on providing palliative care which consists of six domains. Categories are made based on the average of the total score. Respondents who had values above the mean of total score was relatively good and the rest who are under the average included in bad category. Result: The results is 65% of respondents were in below the mean value category. Conclusion: Effectiveness of ICU team on the palliative care delivery in RSUP Dr. Sardjito, Yogyakarta is in bad category.
