  • Background: Cancer is a disesase that can cause substantial mortality in children. Pediatric patientsaged7-12yearsrequirespecial careduringhospitalization. Nurses inINSKARSUP. Sardjitoexpected tothe needs of patientsin accordance with therequirementsdesiredby the child. The needforhospitalizationthat do not fitcan causestressin pediatric patients. This can beattributed to differencesbetween theperceptions ofchildren andcaregiversabout theneeds ofchildren with cancerduring theirhospitalization. Objective: To determine the differences of children and nurses perception about children needs with cancer hospitalization in INSKA dr. Sardjito Hospital. Method: This study was quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique was total sampling for one month in Januari 2013. The mounth of respondents were 45 persons, they were 8 children with cancer disease and 36 nurses in INSKA RSUP dr. Sardjito. Children needs was measured with modified quessionaire from Cancer Needs Questionnaire - Young People (CNQYP), it was consist of 5 domains. Result: There were differences in the perception of children and caregivers in the domain of action and the treatment (p = 0.000), information and activity (p = 0.002), feelings and relationships (p = 0.000) and domains daily life - days (p = 0.000). Domain education there were no differences in the perception of children and nurses, which need to get guidance on the continuation school. Conclusion: There are differences of children and nurses perception of children needs with cancer in INSKA RSUP dr. Sardjito.
