  • Background: The number of pediatric cancer cases in Indonesia were 4,9% from total entirely cases. Patient of cancer generally hospitalized in long time period. Child hospitalization have been traumatic experience and full of stress, not only for children but also for parents. There were many needs felt by parents during cancer treatment in hospital. If the needs are met, they will be better prepared to handle their childâ��s illness. Objective: To determine the differences in parents and nurses perception about parental needs during their child hospitalization with cancer in Instalasi Kesehatan Anak (INSKA) Dr. Sardjito Hospital. Method: This study was quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique was total sampling during January-February 2013. They were 35 parents and 37 nurses as sample. Parental needs was measured with Family Needs Survey (FNS) instrument by Bailey and Simeonsson (1985). Result: The nurses generally scored items higher than the parents did. There was differences in the parental needs. They were information about how to teach the child (p=0,000), how to talk and play with the child (p=0,000), reading material about other parents with a similar child (p=0,000), more time for self (p=0,000), eksplaining to others (p=0,000), help getting a job (p=0,006), help deciding who will do family task in home or hospital (0,000). Conclusion: There are differences in parents and nurses perception about parental needs during their child hospitalization with cancer in Instalasi Kesehatan Anak (INSKA) Dr. Sardjito Hospital.
